New Stroke Index
You might have noticed on your card today that there is a new stroke index. The new index came into “force” on the 24 February. The Women's Match Committee was asked to review their index in October 2010 by the Match Committee. The review looked at all stroke cards from women with a handicap of up to 25 covering the period February to September 2010. Averaging these cards gave statistical information on the difficulty of each hole in comparison to the par for the hole. Listing holes in order of greatest difference to closest difference to the par, a list of holes and their difficulty was obtained. Holes were then ranked in order of difficulty and a new stroke index developed.
The Annual Competition fees are now due and can be paid to Rosalie Bunge until March 17. Twelve dollars allows you to be part of the yearly Eclectic Competition, Birdies and Gobbers, the Silver Spoon, the International Bowl and the Mona MacLeod Brooch. Please put your $12 in an envelope with your name on it and mark it “Annual Comp Fees “ if you want to be part of these competitions.
Jean Whitehead Bowl
The Jean Whitehead Bowl will be held on 15 March this year. Teams of 3 players from the same club are eligible to entry. Entry forms are on the notice board in the Ladies Room. Get yourself a team together and have an extra day of golf and a chance to win some great prizes. Last year's winners were a home team!
News from the District
As most of you know our Western District has been divided in to two districts. The name of the new district is "East Western" and Port Fairy will be in this group. It is not going to be a huge difference as the District Championships will be combined and the Country Team will remain unchanged. For constitution purposes only there will be a President for each district and a District Delegate but the Secretary and Treasurer can be the same for both districts, with smaller committees for each.
WGWD Events for March
The Championships will begin a little earlier this year with the first round being held on March 17th. There will be 3 rounds of stroke and then two rounds of match play for the qualifiers. There will also be a 54 hole nett event held in conjunction with the first 3 rounds of the Championships . You need to put you names on the list in the Ladies Room and indicate if you want to play in the Championships or just the 54 hole event. The Condition of Entry for both the Championships and the 54 Nett Event are posted on the notice board as well.
We will have 3 Pennant teams for 2011. The names of players and their teams is listed on the Ladies Room notice board. Could players please indicate their availability on the list so that our Pennant Captain, Di Robinson can finalize emergency players for teams. Thank you Di for organising our teams during the Christmas break.
Give Golf a Go
Paul and Anthony will be running clinics for 26 women who have registered interest in this program. The dates for the clinics are 22 February, 1 March and 8 March between 10 and 11 am. There may be a few new faces around so please make them feel welcome. Thanks to Annette Learmonth for organising this program and we hope to see some of these girls move into The New Golfers days in the near future.
Have you any unused golf equipment taking up space at home? We are seeking clubs, bags, balls, tees ie. any equipment that could be of use to us for this Clinic and future programs within our Club. Items can be dropped off at the Pro Shop.
