PORT FAIRY GOLF CLUB NEWS for 14 July, 2011

Second Round of Club Cup.

The exceedingly cold conditions through the week resulted in very small fields of only 23 and 24 on Wednesday and Thursday respectively. Some respite in the wintery conditions resulted in a reasonable field size for Saturdays Stableford competition however the scores returned testified to the difficulties of winter golfing conditions.

The Club Cup field has now been reduced to four after the weeks matches. Gary Cooper with take on Andrew Dwyer after they both score ‘2 up’ wins over John O’Sullivan and Aaron Finnigan in their matches, whilst Michael Hunt with contest the other final with John Boromeo after they defeated Wayne Jenkins and Bernie Waixel in the previous round.

Dune Fence takes a beating.

Unfortunately the sand fence adjacent to the 16th fairway bore the brunt of the high seas over the weekend. Previously a small group of helpers have lifted the mesh back onto the wire strands after storms however the damage sustained this time may require some sections to undergo a rebuild.
