Over the past weeks the annual Women’s Foursomes Knockout has been keenly contested. Many matches have been played in not too kind of conditions however the weather for the final played on Tuesday 27 September was ideal, although testing. Helen Wake and Anne Eccles had defeated Kay Patterson and Helen Dwyer 5 and 3, whilst Vi Fenwick and Elaine O’Neill were defending their title after defeating Kathy Miller and Bev Burke 4 and 3. Re vegetation continues.

Students from Gilson College, St Albans, continued their planting activities under guidance of Department of Sustainability staff and the clubs grounds chairman, Mr John Brebner. The planting continues the clubs efforts to stop the invasion of ‘sea spurge’ through the dune system adjacent to the course. Shrubs, grasses and direct seeding techniques have been deployed after initial success with halting the weeds progress with herbicide.

Andrews Ace

Andrew Dwyer and Philip Laird were the only winners from the Captain’s team during the second round of the Club Teams Championship played on Saturday. Andrews score was boosted by an ace on the 167 meter 4th hole. Saterdays event was won by a combination of Greg Kelly and Peter McMillian with a fine nett 55 closelly followed by Evan McLaren and Chris Roberts on nett 56. Chris obviously has carried over his good form from the state schools championships to lift Evan into contention.

Club Teams Challenge Kicks off

Saturday’s stroke event served as the back drop for the first round of the Club Teams Championship contested between teams representing both the President and the Captain. Eight players from each team donned colours to signify their allegiance to President or Captain in the event run along similar lines to the international Presidents Cup. Saturday’s results were captains 4 wins, presidents 3 wins and one drawn match. Pressure will now be on Pat and his team to maintain this slender lead into the second round of 4BBB stroke on 17 September.
