The Tuesday ladies held their Christmas break up on December 11th. The daily winner was Trish Grady, and the runner up Robyn Anscombe from Sue Woodhouse. Nearest the pins on the 4th was taken by Sue Woodhouse, Val Wood had the longest drive, and Lorraine Whitty the shortest drive. The winner of the yearly event was Lorraine Whitty, 2nd Pauline Pennings, 3rd Sue Woodhouse, 4th Jenny Clarke and equal 5th Netta Hill and Robyn Anscombe. The Helpers winner was Helen Dwyer with 22 pts, and runner up Helen Wake on countback from Marlene Hoy with 18 pts. Nearest the Pins: 4th Judy Stephens, 8th Helen Dwyer, longest drive Peg Nitschke and the shortest drive Marlene Hoy. It has been a very successful year for this group of ladies, with many newcomers being encouraged and supported by Beryl Duncan and her team of ladies.

In warm, windy conditions on Saturday, a field of 132 players took to the course in the Stableford event. The A grade was won by junior player Matt Cameron who scored 44 points to defeat Brendan Rix with 40 points. Warrick Taylor was successful in the B grade with 38 points defeating Lawrie Keane on a count back. In the C grade Tim Sheldon with 39 points narrowly defeated young junior player Fraser Marris scoring 37 points. In the ladies section Joanna Flaherty posted a score of 35 points over Eda Ritchie with 33 points, and in the juniors Noah Best was successful over Fraser Marris.
The ladies held their second round of the Maureen Leishman Cup, and ladies’ president Judy Austin took out the honours for the day with a score of (22) 40 points over runner up Carmel O’Keefe (18) 36 points. In the B grade, Julie Carter posted a round of (28) 38 points to defeat Rosalie Bunge (29) 36 points and the C grade was taken out by Pauline Pennings (38) 42 points over Marlene Hoy (33) 39.
The veterans held a 4 BBB Stableford event on Monday for their wind up event prior to the Christmas season. A field of 33 players enjoyed a social barbecue lunch prior to taking to the course, and first place was taken out by Ian Abrahams and John Walters 48 points on a count back from Bevin Williamson and Gordon Duff.
On Thursday a field of 42 ladies began the Maureen Leishman Cup (Summer Cup) in temperatures reaching 38 degrees and warm northerly winds. Congratulations to Beverley Bourke for taking out the A Grade section with 32 points, Vicki Johnstone the B Grade with 42 points and the C grade was won by Ros Saunders with 32 points.
On Saturday, the Port Fairy IGA Captain’s Cup monthly medal competition was held in much more pleasant conditions. Paul Williams took out the A Grade on a count back from Brian Solomon. The B Grade was won by Trevor Shaw from Max Holmes and the C Grade was won Roy Harry over Peter McMillan. In the women’s section Helen Bacon was the winner over Anne Eccles, and the Juniors was taken by Noah Best from Matt Cameron.
The Social Club Christmas Day was enjoyed by 27 players competing in a 2 person mixed ambrose event. Paul Hickman & Nicki Atkinson took out the honours over Helen Rix and Kate Stuchbery. Christmas festivities were enjoyed by all after the event.
The raffle for the Plasma TV was also drawn on Sunday, with the winner being Matthew Starick from Melbourne. Congratulation to Matt.
