".....it (Port Fairy) is the best value golf in the world - without question."  Golf Australia

New Manager for Port Fairy Golf Club

NEW Port Fairy Golf Club manager Kerry Bond brings with her an impressive set of skills both on and off the course.

Before her taking up the main job at Port Fairy earlier this month, Bond spent time in the United States as a volunteer working on the LPGA tour.

This American adventure added to the knowledge she had already gathered about golf administration during her three years as manager at the Portalington Golf Club.

She also had a sound business background before her venture into the golfing world, having worked extensively in the banking industry, which included work as a major change projects manager for the National Bank.

And there is plenty of talent on show when she steps onto the course with club in hand despite being a late starter to the sport.

"I grew up in a small country town in central Victoria so sport was always a big part of life," Bond said.

"I played all the different sports that were going around and I ended up going OK at netball and softball. When I was 30 I was playing those sports in Melbourne and I hurt my knee so that restricted me.

"I had never played golf but with the knee injury it seemed the perfect time to try my hand at it and I really enjoyed it."

Bond became enthralled by the game of golf as she excelled on the course and worked her handicap down to nine, just one off her target number of eight.

She left the banking sector and has since turned her passion for golf into a career, with her US visit another step in her education in the sport and how to run it effectively. Bond said she was keen to bring some new ideas to the Port Fairy club, which she believed was left in a strong position by previous manager Trevor Brown.

"My motto is that as manager of the club I am the caretaker for the members of the club and I think I am a positive person who tries to involve other people and get their ideas," Bond said.

'This is a wonderful golf course with a dedicated staff and committee and the membership has been so welcoming to me and made me feel such a part of the club."
