PORT FAIRY GOLF NEWS from 26 July

What a busy week of golfing with events or competitions every day of the week.  The week started with 68 players in the Wednesday Pro Comp.  The result was a close affair with Colin Greene with 37 points winning on a count back from Peter Gubbins.

The ladies then faced up on Thursday to play the final round of the Silver Spoon.  The A Grade winner was Vi Fenwick with 32 points from Helen Wake 31 points.  While in B Grade Edna Halliwell was too good with 36 points to win from Peg Nitschke with 31 points.  The winner of the silver spoon was Marlene Hoy.

On Saturday we saw 106 players compete with Stephen Chapman winning on a count back from Kevin Cameron with 39 points.  In B Grade Peter Nyikos was the winner also with 39 points from Roger Wake with 37 points.  While C Grade was taken out by Kerry Hutchins with 37 points from Harry Bracegirdle with 36 points.  The winner of the women’s event was Joanna Flaherty with 36 points from Julie Carter with 33 points. The juniors was won by Noah Best with 37 points.

On Sunday we saw the Social club take to the course in magnificent conditions and Stephen Anscombe certainly made the most of it winning the day with a sensational plus 9 from Wally Robertson with square.  The women’s event was taken out by Beryl Duncan with minus 2 from Helen Dwyer with minus 3.  The junior winner was Chris Roberts with plus 5.

Then on Monday we had the veteran’s event with Alec Rochfort showing the field a clean pair of heals to win with 40 points to win from Glenn Smith with 38 points.

PORT FAIRY GOLF NEWS from 19 July 2012

Another full week of golfing which kicked off with 93 players having great conditions for the Wednesday Pro Comp. Mark Lewis with 39 points was victor from Glenn Smith wtih 38 points.

The weather remained perfect for golf on Thursday for the ladies.  With 36 players slugging it out for the Captain versus President day. The Presidents team was far too good taking out the day.  Individually it was Helen Greene with 32 points winning on a count back from Helen Gleeson.

On Saturday we saw the weather start to deteriate again.  But there was still some really good scores had.  In A Grade Daryl Squires led the way with plus 2 to win from Mark Jenkins with plus 1.  Eddie Hoy was the too good in B Grade winning with a score of plus 3 from Malcolm Habel with a square.  While in C Grade it was a much closer affair with John Harris winning on a countback from Anthony Miller.  The ladies competition was taken out by Joanna Flaherty with another good score of plus 3 from Helen Bacon with minus 2.  The juniors was won by Fraser Marris with plus 5 which was the best score of the day.

We also had the first round of the Club Cup on Saturday which saw Andrew Dwyer, Darren Beks, Nelson Williams and Glen Mahony go through to the next round.

With better weather predicted this week I look forward to seeing more good scores.

PORT FAIRY GOLF NEWS from 12 July 2012

Well what a week for golf with the sun making an appearance on most days.  The air was still a bit chilly but you can’t beat natural Vitamen B. The week started on Wednesday with Goran Stankovski having a day out with a wonderful score of 44 points and wining the day from Glenn Smith with 39 points.

On Thursday it was a the ladies turn to experience sunshine and little to no wind conditions and Denise Harman had the best score of the day with 69 nett to win A Grade from Di Grieves. B Grade was taken out by Val Johnstone with 73 nett from Pam Nitschke with 79 nett. While C Grade winner was Chris Hayes with 76 nett from Barbara Mahony with 76 nett.

Saturday saw the morning groups get some very frosty conditions with the ice quite thick on the ground and their golf shoes. The conditions were very good for golf with 121 players competing for the spoils. The best mens score for the day was returned by Andrew Dwyer with a 67 nett to win A Grade from Damian Dobson with 70 nett. B Grade was taken out by Rob O’Donnell with 72 nett from Matt Boland with 73 nett. While in C Grade Alec Rochfort was the winner with 74 nett on a count back from Tim Connor with 74 nett. The ladies event was won by Jane Thompso with a great score of 67 nett from Mary Robertson with 72 nett.  And the junior winner was Joanna Flaherty with 73 nett on a count back from Fraser Marris with 73 nett.

The veterans then fronted up on Monday to much cooler conditions. The A Grade was taken out by Derek Southey with 34 points from Roger Wake with 33 points. While in B Grade Richard Chapman was too good with 37 points from Stanley Berry with 35 points.

PORT FAIRY GOLF NEWS from 5 July 2012

The week has seen the temperature down near the bottom of the thermometer but that doesn’t stop the keen golfers. The week started on Wednesday with cool but sunny conditions, a perfect winters golf day. The best score for the day was by Leigh Fary with 40 points and the runner up was Peter Meade with 38 points.

On Thursday it was a bitter cold day with the women almost frozen by the time they finished their round.  That didn’t stop Vicki Johnstone who had the best score of the day with a fantastic 69 nett to win her first monthly medal. In A Grade Beryl Duncan was the winner with 77 nett narrowly from Di Robinson with 78 nett. In B Grade Vicki was the winner and Edna Halliwell was the runner up with 77 nett.  While in C Grade Gen Baulch had 76 nett to win from Kaye Patterson with 78 nett.

Saturday saw the morning groups get the better of the conditions at least for the start of their round. Then the precipitation started and made life a lot more interesting on the course in the afternoon.  There was only 60 players who braved the conditions. Dylan O’Keefe won A Grade with 40 points followed by Steve Rose with 39 points. B Grade was taken out by Brad Hewitt with 40 points from Gary Thomson with 34 points. The ladies event was won by Edna Halliwell with 28 points. And the junior winner was Matt Cameron with 32 points from Joanna Flaherty with 25 points.
