PORT FAIRY GOLF NEWS FOR 29 NOVEMBER 2012

On Sunday December 2, the Club is holding a Social Day, being a Christmas Break up Turkey Day. A 4 B.B.B. mixed Stableford is being held, and all members and visitors are welcome. The day begins at 11.30 am for a 12.30 pm tee off. Plenty of prizes are on offer, and nearest the pins on all par 3s. Christmas Tea after the game, and the raffle for the plasma TV will be drawn.

A very successful Moyne Senior Classic was held at the club on Thursday 22nd & Friday 23rd, with over 75 players competing from clubs such as Rich River, Trafalgar, Bendigo and Peninsula. An evening meal was provided at the club house on Thursday night, with competitors enjoying the hospitality of the club, before an early tee off on Friday morning. A great couple of days was enjoyed by all.

 

 

PORT FAIRY GOLF CLUB NEWS 22 NOVEMBER 2012

The Annual General Meeting of the golf club was held last Thursday night with a very good attendance. The new office bearers elected for the coming year are Evan McLaren as President, Greg Best as Vice President, Annette Learmonth was re-elected as Secretary, Glen Mahony re-elected as House Committee Chair, and Colin Lang elected as Vice Captain. Members who were elected for the general committee positions were Hank Moritz, Mark Conlan and Ross Morey. Congratulations to all those elected.

The Social club also held their annual general meeting with Neil Cahill elected President and Allen Shiells Secretary /Treasurer.

The Moyne Senior Classic is being held this Thursday and Friday, with over 70 golfers from various clubs around the state such as Portsea, Bendigo and Yarrawonga competing.

 

 

PORT FAIRY GOLF CLUB NEWS 15 NOVEMBER 2012

A very successful Shipwreck Coast Classic was held over the weekend with 178 of the state’s leading golfers attending the event. Players competed from metropolitan clubs, such as Heidelberg and Spring Valley, as well as from the local clubs. The event was won by Mortlake teenager Slade Palmer who plays off a handicap of two. Slade finished Saturday’s round at Port Fairy two over par with 72, then backed up on Sunday at Warrnambool finishing one over, with 73. Both courses were presented in excellent condition for the event.

The Club’s Annual Presentation Night was held on Friday night with almost 90 members attending to congratulate the winners in the various categories on offer. Club Champion in A Grade went to Xavier McCartney, with the runner up being Chris Dunn. B Grade was taken out by Kadir Zehir and the runner up was Steve Englehart. C Grade went to David Newton and the runner up was Matt Cameron, while the D Grade went to Paul Hay with the runner up being Paul Farley.

In the Ladies, A Grade Champion was Anne Dwyer and the runner up was awarded to Di Robertson. B Grade went to Beryl Duncan with the runner up being Helen Rix, and C Grade winner was Julie Carter and runner up went to Geraldine Dalton. Junior Club Champion was Nelson Williams with the runner up awarded to Matthew Cameron. Congratulations to all medal and trophy winners on the night.

Ladies Day on Thursday was held with an Oaks Day Canadian Foursomes event. Many ladies donned a hat for the day, a fashions competition on the field was held, along with a sweep to help celebrate Oaks Day. Winners for the day were Linda Creek and Ros Bromell. A fun day was held by all.

The Veterans held a Guest Day on Monday with a Stableford Aggregate event which was well attended. D. Chapman won the event with P. Cross, with J. O’Sullivan and N. Read being the runners up.

The Annual General Meeting will be held tonight, November 15that 8.00 pm. All members are invited to attend.

Out on the course, Saturday’s competition saw Luke Dwyer 74 (7) 67 take out the day on a countback from Michael Hunt 77 (10)67. In the women’s event Linda Garrett 88 (20) 68 defeated Jill Rasmussen 86 (17) 69, and in the Junior event, Noah Best 95 (32) 63 won over Rebecca Bryden 102 (31) 71.

The Ladies held a Flag Day Stroke competition on Thursday with Linda Creek being the A  Grade winner, and Sue Woodhouse taking out the B Grade event.

Presentation Night is being held this Friday November 9th at 6:30pm, with the Shipwreck Coast Classic at Port Fairy on Saturday, and Warrnambool Golf course on Sunday. Please come along to support this event.

Out on the course, the Captain’s Cup and the monthly medal finals were played on Sunday. Congratulations to Evan McLaren who won the Captain’s cup for the second time with back to back wins and a fine performance from a field of 27. The Captain’s cup aggregate champion was Luke Dwyer with an average score of 72.7, with Neil Cahill a close runner up with a score of 73. Newcomer Anthony Wright took out the medal championship for 2012 from Matt Cameron. Anthony has been playing extremely well lately, so his win came as no surprise.

The Junior Presentation Day was also held on Sunday. Junior winners for this year were Under 18 Champion Nelson Williams, Runner Up Matt Daly. Under 16 Champion Brayden McConnell, Runner Up Ben Williams. Under 14 Champion Matt Cameron, Runner Up Chris Roberts. Under 12 Champion Fraser Marris, Runner Up Noah Best. Under 14 Girls Champion Rebecca Bryden, Runner Up Georgia Bryden. The Evan McLaren medal was awarded to Fraser Marris. The overall Junior Champion was Joanna Flaherty, who also was awarded the 2012 Achievement Award. Congratulations to Joanna for a very successful year. A 2 person 9 hole ambrose event was also played. 12 players competed, and the event was take out by Joanna Flaherty & Brayden McConnell, 35 (9¾) 25 ¼ from Rebecca and Darren Bryden 39 (11½) 27½.

In fine conditions on Thursday the Ladies Medal of Medallists was held. Congratulations to Helen Wake for taking out the competition whose score of 101 (21) 80 was good enough to take the day and win the medal.

Presentation Night is Friday November 9th at 6:30 and all members are invited to attend, especially those who have won a golfing event. A great night for all, even if you haven’t won a prize. Please contact the club for catering purposes by Nov 2nd.
