PORT FAIRY NEWS FOR 28 FEBRUARY 2013

The Victorian Four-Ball Championship qualifying event was held at the course on Sunday with 37 players competing to qualify for the final. Qualifying pairs are then eligible to compete in the Championship final which will be played over 36 holes of Four-Ball Stableford play. The first round will be played at Rosebud Country Club on Monday 18 March 2013, with the second round to be played at The National Golf Club on Tuesday 19 March 2013. Winners in the ladies section who now go on to compete in the final were June Ayres and Donna Weller from Timboon Golf Club. The men’s winners were John Roxburgh and Kel Aldenhoven from Beaufort Golf Club, with the runners up being Scott Boschen and Josh Dossett from Horsham.

PORT FAIRY NEWS FOR 21 FEBRUARY 2013

Chris Dunn secured his second club championship in three years with a record breaking performance. Chris claimed a 19 shot victory after posting the lowest four-round total on the 18 hole course in club history. He finished at three-under 285, well clear of teenager Nelson Williams with 304. Chris began the championships with an opening round course record of 67, following with rounds of 75, four-under 68 in Saturday’s third round, and finished with another 75 on Sunday. On Saturday Dunn went out in one-over 37 but came home in 31 after a back nine that included an eagle three at par-five 18th, birdies at the 10th, 11th, 13th and 15th holes and a bogey on the long par-four 14th, which was playing into a stiff breeze. A challenge from good mate Troy Richardson failed to eventuate with 17 year old Williams scoring rounds of 70 and 73 to climb to second, three ahead of Richardson who finished third.

The juniors completed the championships in three rounds with Johanna Flaherty the winner on 244, well clear of runner up Georgia Bryden with 316. Nelson Williamms took out the boys section with 231, four shots ahead of Taine Pearse.

PORT FAIRY NEWS FOR 14 FEBRUARY 2013

The second round of the club championships was played on Saturday, with Barry Levinson winning the A Grade section with 81 (13) 68, from junior player Taine Pearse, who scored an impressive round with 77 (8) 69. Gary Thompson took out the B Grade section for the day with 88 (18) 70 from Russell Jones with 89 (18) 71. Ashley Kelson won the C Grade scoring 94 (25) 69 on count back from Sam Wilson 91 (22) 69. The Ladies section was taken out by Linda Creek 92 (22) 70 from Louise Cameron 94 (22) 72. While Brayden McConnell won the Juniors 101 (32) 69 on count back from Taine Pearse 77 (8) 69.


The opening round of the Ladies season was played on Thursday, with A. Dwyer, L. Creek, L. Whitty & R. Saunders with a score of 119 points winning over H. Wake, T. Bourke, N. Aitkinson & C. Hill with 115 points.

The opening round of the Veterans was played on Monday with a barbecue followed by a 4BBB Stableford event. Winners on the day were J. Nitschke & B. Stewart with a score of 52 points over H. Moritz & J Giblin with 50 points.

PORT FAIRY NEWS FOR 7 FEBRUARY 2013

The opening round of the club championships was played on Saturday with an impressive new course record set by Chris Dunn scoring five under 67. The Melbourne based member travels to Port Fairy each week end, visiting family and friends, and playing the seaside links course. Dunn’s score included four consecutive birdies on the front nine, and he completed the back nine in 35. He was extremely happy with his bogey free round, and will take a nine shot lead into the second round of the championships on Saturday. Following Chris was Graham King scoring a nett 67 off a handicap of 9.

The Social Club tri series was held on Sunday at Portland. Over 40 golfers from the Port Fairy club made the journey, however Portland was the successful club on the day with a score of 32 average points. Second place was Heywood golf club with 28.9 average points, closely followed by Port Fairy with 28.2 average points. In the junior event, Port Fairy members won the day, with Fraser Marris the winner with 34 points, followed by Georgia Bryden with 32 points.

The final round of the Maureen Leishman Summer Cup has been played, and presentations will be held on the women’s opening day, February 7th.
