PORT FAIRY GOLF CLUB NEWS FOR 31 JANUARY 2013

The annual Moyneyana Open Tournament took place on Saturday with a good sized field, including many visitors from other clubs, with the locals figuring strongly in the results. The main feature was the 27 hole stroke event and this was won by Shane Gurnett with a score of 109 playing off scratch which was three shots better than Chris Dunn with a score of 112. Leigh Fary won the B Grade section with a solid 115, nine shots better than Gavan Nunn with a score of 124.

Chris Lloyd from Melbourne scored a nett 107 from a handicap of seven to win A Grade in the 27 hole handicap event, one point ahead of Sam Hampson with a nett score of 108. P. Burchard of Millicent triumphed in B Grade with a nett score of 103 ½.

Only five women tackled the 27 holes and the winner was Lauren Higgins of Warrnambool with a nett score of 110 1/2. The women’s 18 hole event was won by Marlene Hoy with a score of 34 points from Eda Ritchie with a score of 33 points on count back.

For the first year, the Moyneyana also included a Junior event which was held in conjunction with the Alec Calvert Junior Open.

The final round of the Maureen Leishman Summer Cup has been played, and presentations will be held on the women’s opening day, February 7th.

A Social Day of Golf is being held on Sunday February 3 at Portland with the Port Fairy, Heywood and Portland Clubs playing a Stableford event. Those wishing to play, please put your name on the list in the Club rooms.

PORT FAIRY GOLF CLUB NEWS FOR 24 JANUARY 2013

Summer conditions continue with many visitors and members enjoying fine playing conditions. The women’s summer cup, the Maureen Leishman Cup, was cancelled on Thursday due to the hot weather forecast, with the final round due to be played today. The presentation will be held on opening day which is Thursday February 7.

Mark Gramms was the best player on Saturday with 42 points from Leigh Fary with 41 points on count back. In the ladies Julie Carter on 41 points took the honours from Joanna Flaherty with 38 points on count back, and in the Juniors Brayden McConnell with 43 points was the winner over Joanna Flaherty.

The Club Championships will be held on February 2, 9, 16 & 17. Entry forms are now available at the Clubroom scoreboard and in the Pro Shop. Entries close Wed January 30th.

Summer conditions continue with many visitors and members enjoying fine playing conditions. Warwick Taylor was the best player on Saturday with 42 points from Neil Cahill with 39 points on count back.  In the ladies Ruth Walter on 39 points took the honours from Joanna Flaherty with 37 points, and in the Juniors Brayden McConnell with 40 points was the winner over Joanna Flaherty.

The Club Championships will be held on February 2, 9, 16 & 17.  Entry forms are now available at the Clubroom scoreboard and in the Pro Shop.  Entries close Wed January 30th.

Summer is well and truly underway with many visitors enjoying the course and the pleasant playing conditions.  The Maureen Leishman Cup resumes today followed by 2 further rounds – 17th and 24th January. The presentation of the cup will be held on opening day which is Thursday February 7th: 8.30 for 9.00am shotgun start.  Names to be down at the Pro Shop. Multiplied Stableford draw for partners. The ladies 2013 golf year has been brought forward 2 weeks, with the opening day 7th February, and not 21st, as recorded in the syllabus.

PORT FAIRY GOLF CLUB NEWS FOR 3 JANUARY 2013

The golf club has settled into summer mode with all events run under Stableford rules. A few showers on Saturday morning made things a little uncomfortable for the morning players but generally the golfers have been enjoying fine playing conditions. Scores have been pretty solid with a lot of players near the top of the leader board. Noah Best in the junior division was the best player on Saturday with 42 points while four others managed to post 40 points. On Wednesday in the Pro comp the junior brigade triumphed again when Fraser Marris won on count back from Graham King both players scoring 41 points.
